In a world of constant innovations in technology and evolving consumer demands, B2B companies are awakening to an important realization—the urgency to embrace the digital shift to be able to thrive and stay ahead of competitors.

Adopted by forward-thinking businesses, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software emerges to be a vital aspect of the digital shift. Salesforce, a CRM platform, is the pioneer of this development. It enables B2B organizations to adapt, evolve, and thrive in the digital era.

What is Salesforce?

With technological advancements, computers became more common; businesses began using Excel sheets and files to manage their customer data. However, this method soon became laborious and inefficient, especially for huge amounts of data. Every person in the organization needed to be capable of handling and analyzing enormous amounts of user data. This was the time when CRM entered the scene of the digital revolution, delivering the best CRM platform, Salesforce, to the world.

Salesforce is a well-known American cloud-based software corporation that offers CRM services. It is a prevalent CRM solution used by support, marketing, and advertising departments all across the world.

Salesforce

Salesforce services empower organizations to capitalize on cloud-based technology to interact more effectively with clients, suppliers, and prospective clients. Businesses can monitor customer behavior, promote to customers, and perform many other tasks with the Salesforce CRM.

Salesforce is a multi-tenant layout that began as software-as-a-service (SaaS) and offers advantages, including API Integration, installation, scaling, unlimited capabilities, inexpensive possession, interface assistance, etc.

Salesforce has a subscription-based payment system. It stores all the data in the cloud. So, you can access it from every device with an internet connection.

Working Elements of Salesforce

Salesforce is a well-designed platform with multiple elements that work collaboratively for effective CRM solutions. Here are the essential elements of Salesforce:

  • Storing Data: Salesforce’s comprehensive database, which houses all customer data, such as prospects, user accounts, links, possibilities, and more, is the driving force behind the software. All engagements and activities carried out on this platform are built on an understanding of this data.
  • Interface: Users may access their customized workstations and functions on Salesforce by logging in with their specific credentials.
  • Records: Salesforce objects, which consist of leads, accounts, contacts, and Prospects, are used for organizing different kinds of data. Records are specific entries contained under these objects.
  • Workflow: By automating activities, notices, and activities based on default requirements, workflow guidelines, workflow developers, and procedure approvals can ensure accuracy and effectiveness.
  • Customization: Through customized code or low-code resources like Salesforce Lightning App Builder, managers can change design elements, fields, and objects, develop personalized programs, and add automation.
  • Security: The organizations may establish restricted access to ensure employees have sufficient privileges and are able to access relevant details. Features like two-factor authentication increase additional security.
  • Collaboration: Salesforce has collaborative services, for example, Salesforce Chatter, which facilitates users to interact and work together within the application. Teams may communicate more efficiently, explore prospects, and share insights.
  • Analytics: Users can design unique dashboards and reports that quantify key performance indicators, illustrate data trends, and help in decision-making.
  • Integration: Salesforce’s ability to integrate improves connectivity and makes sure that data is updated across several platforms.
  • Upgrades: Salesforce is an application that relies on the cloud; therefore, it is regularly updated and modified. The smooth implementation of such updates guarantees that businesses are constantly granted access to the current services and security upgrades.

Salesforce Services

Salesforce is a lot more than just client contact details and sales data. It is an extensive network designed to facilitate the whole business, sales, marketing, and client service under a single, complete perspective of every client. Productivity is the key to business success and Slack from Salesforce is going all-in. Top companies are more than 40 percent more productive than other companies, according to Harvard Business Review. And 71 percent of business leaders say they feel pressure to make their teams more productive.

One of the most significant ways companies improve productivity is through Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation. Salesforce is rolling out a new update to its productivity and messaging platform, Slack, to help employees better navigate the platform. The update will also make productivity-enhancing tools more easily accessible. The rollout will occur gradually over the next few months.

“We know millions of people start and end their workday in Slack, so we took great care to ensure these improvements make it a more productive and pleasant home. The new experience helps teams stay better organized, focus on what’s important, and quickly access a growing set of tools in Slack,” says Noah Weiss, Slack’s chief product officer.

Slack helps organizations share information and ideas, breaking down silos and helping teams to collaborate. Team members can share information through audio and video clips, huddling with colleagues (audio and video calls), and adding links to work in other systems. Teams also use Slack to keep their information organized within their channels. The new design puts the capabilities within easier reach.

Key Changes

The update will give users more control over their time and allow for many ways of working. It will improve the user experience in several significant ways.

A Single View

The update will allow employees to view direct channels, apps, and direct messages in a well-organized “Home” view. Enterprise Grid customers can view channels from every workspace in “Home” without toggling back and forth between workspaces.

Dedicated Views

The update also features new dedicated views, which help teams better focus their attention and navigate tools and conversations faster. The new structure supports both focused solo work and collaboration with colleagues.

For example, at the beginning of the day, a team can jump into “Activity” to tackle work that is in motion. They can set aside time to respond to unread “Direct Messages” when they are in between tasks or meetings. They can also save messages and action items to “Later” and set reminders to complete them on time. Teams also can find other productivity tools in “More.” These tools include workflows, apps, and Canvas, a feature that allows teams to share documents and documentation within the Stack application.

New “Create” Button

The update adds a new “create” button, which allows teams to quickly start new messages, channels, canvases, and huddles. Salesforce also has updated the “Search” experience so that users can now click on each result to see its full context without jumping back and forth, searching for what they need.

Slackers Reactions to the Update (pun intended!)

Slack customers are reacting positively to the news of the update, noting that the new design meets customer needs now and creates space for the easy addition of new features in the future.

Wayne Kurtzman, vice president of Social, Communities and Collaboration at IDC, says:

“Slack continues to evolve its productivity platform to meet changing workplace and workspace needs. Slack did more than respond to customer requests: With this user interface update, Slack made it easier for people to control their flow of work better and maintain focus on what matters most to each user. At the same time, these updates create a path for more substantial features in the future.”

Customers also see the update reinforcing Slack’s value as a primary business tool.

Andy Kahn, Manager of Artist Relations at Sixthman, says:

Over the years, Slack’s value has grown from being a helpful tool that keeps us connected to our primary platform — one that is essential to our operations. This new interface has further optimized our workspace, allowing us to stay better focused and keep momentum going on tasks while making it easier to quickly access our favorite tools in Slack.”

A History of Innovation

Slack’s mission is to make people’s lives simpler. To fulfill that mission, Slack has always been an innovator.

The platform first launched in 2013 and was an internal communication tool in Tiny Speck, a game company owned by Stewart Butterfield. Butterfield developed the name from Searchable Log of All Conversation and Knowledge.”

In 2020, Slack acquired Rimeto, a startup specializing in employee directories and profiles. A year later, it included the Rimeto functionality as an optional feature within Slack named “Slack Atlas.”

Salesforce acquired Slack in 2021. Salesforce provides cloud-based software that helps companies across a variety of industries connect to their customers. Industry-specific innovations help companies modernize.

Its software is beneficial for manufacturers. Salesforce for Manufacturing helps manufacturers connect the value chain and solve their challenges. CloudStreet, a Salesforce partner, has implemented B2B stores for manufacturers in the industrial, IT services, and consumer goods sectors.

Slack Today

Slack now integrates with many third-party services and has become a command center for modern work. It integrates apps into one place, automates time-consuming processes, and brings teams into one platform to collaborate.

Its innovation continues. Salesforce has made more than 100 improvements to the Slack platform within the past year, all of them to improve the work lives of its customers. Slack will continue to enhance its design based on customer feedback. Customers can quickly provide feedback by clicking the question mark on the right in the desktop app and then clicking “Give feedback on the new design.”

The cloud-based Slack platform has more than 2,500 apps to automate mundane tasks and put conversations in context. The platform has more than 200,000 paid customers in more than 150 countries and 12 languages. Seventy-seven of the Fortune 100 companies use Slack. Teams that use Slack are 47 percent more productive, according to the company’s surveys.

A basic version of Slack is free, and more advanced versions start at $7.25 a month.

Ever since Salesforce acquired Slack for $27.7 billion in 2021, the business system provider has been deepening the connections between the two tools.

In August 2023, Salesforce released several new features designed to strengthen the collaboration between the CRM producer and the messaging platform.

For manufacturers and other companies looking to quickly get information from their customer database to those who can leverage those opportunities, it’s an exciting advance.

Called Slack Sales Elevate, the new features allow Slack users to complete key sales management functions directly from the communications channel. It allows sales teams to see customer insights and track reminders of deal progress. It also enables Slack users to use configurable account update notifications that can then be sent back to the Salesforce CRM.

How Slack Sales Elevate Works

Slack Sales Elevate is an add-on to a Slack account. It’s designed to centralize information and processes directly from the Slack platform.

Once integrated, users in the Slack app can click on the Sales button and then the Connect to Salesforce button. Users then sign into their Salesforce account.

View and Update Opportunities

To look at opportunities captured in Salesforce while in Slack, you can select an opportunity list or search via a drop-down menu. Once you select an opportunity, you can update fields necessary within Slack. The updates will save automatically to Salesforce.

Create and Manage Notifications

Keeping tabs on deals and setting reminders helps teams stay on track with key steps.

Within Slack, you can now access notifications from the Sales Notification menu. When you click on Create notification, you can choose a template to use and customize the notification as you like. When complete, you can save the notification within Salesforce.

Metrics Management

When you want to manage progress on important sales targets, you can use Slack Sales Elevate. You can use the tool to configure up to three metrics, which will appear in Your insights. Simply click the Add metric button add a Salesforce report link to select a metric and name.

Advantages of New Integrations of Salesforce and Slack

The new tools are available generally now. Slack Sales Elevate costs $60 per month per user, in addition to subscription fees for Salesforce and Slack.

The tools are a powerful way to meet users where they are. Users are frequently in the Slack app. Automated notifications help sales managers who are constantly in Slack to know when a new sales opportunity appears. It can also indicate when an opportunity has been updated.

For CRMs, there’s a crucial need to deliver integrations into collaboration platforms like Slack, Teams, and others. The Salesforce Slack integration provides for scalable integration of technologies that are primed to deepen the value of both technology solutions.

The new integration tools have other major benefits for sales teams. By making notifications configurable, users can create reminders themselves. There’s no need to coordinate the reminders with an administrator, schedule meetings, or have reports run. Notification definitions can be defined directly by the end user and automation is also in the hands of the users themselves.

There’s also tremendous opportunity with the automation, notification, and configuration technologies. The notifications may present patterns of customer behaviors that sales teams can use and may not have seen earlier.

Artificial Intelligence Advances Pending

Artificial intelligence (AI) is disrupting multiple industries. The transformations of work operations, content, and speed are transformative.

Salesforce has recently announced an upcoming functionality that will let teams build no-code workflows using AI that will not require help from tech support. No release date has been announced for the tool.

The new tools are designed to save time and will be triggered by actions taken in Salesforce. Deal approvals or support requests can trigger the new workflows.

For example, if a Sales Cloud update in Slack prompts a workflow, the updated data could prompt a note sent to a Slack channel asking a work team to follow up with a client. It starts with a link that appears in Slack which creates a form and builds a case in Salesforce based on what’s entered into the form. That new data prompts the message sent back into the channel.

The end result? More team productivity.

Generative AI has already become prevalent on the Slack platform, with multiple third-party apps available to build into the solution. Salesforce expects to release its own native generative AI features for sales in the near future.

Salesforce-Slack Deal Deepens Connections

Salesforce acquired Slack in July 2021. At the time of the sale, the companies touted Slack as the core interface of Salesforce’s Customer 360 platform, giving users a complete view of customer activity across sales, marketing, e-commerce, and customer service.

The deal was Salesforce’s largest at the time, eclipsing the purchase of the data visualization tool Tableau, bought for $15.7 billion in 2019.

Salesforce has gradually added integrations to the tool. Other announced advances include a channel for customers to engage with salespeople. The functionality allows salespeople to access and update Sales Cloud data directly from Slack.

A new workflow orchestration tool, based on Slack Workflow Builder, includes templates for common tasks, such as new staff onboarding or deal approvals.

Salesforce, the industry-leading cloud-based customer relationship management (CRM) platform, has recently announced the launch of Slack Sales Elevate. Dubbed a “personalized sales home,” it’s a new array of features designed to integrate Slack’s already robust collaboration tools with the Sales Cloud, aka Salesforce’s CRM. This move will help the company continue its mission to allow businesses of all shapes and sizes to better manage not only customer data, but also sales operations, and even marketing campaigns as well.

Slack Sales Elevate also marks Salesforce’s entry into the world of artificial intelligence with open arms. AI is everywhere these days, thanks in large part to the launch of tools like ChatGPT. There has already been much discussion about how artificial intelligence has the potential to positively disrupt just about every industry you can think of, changing the way consumers interact with brands and how brands manage their affairs in a highly cost-effective, scalable way.

It would appear that the team at Salesforce agrees with this idea wholeheartedly and has designed Slack Sales Elevate as a way to take the efficiency gains inherent in AI to the next level.

Slack Sales Elevate: What You Need to Know

At its core, Slack Sales Elevate isn’t a new product – instead, it is built into Slack, the instant messaging program that countless organizations already use for communication and collaboration. It is designed to act as a centralized repository or single source of “truth,” that consolidates all critical business data into one easy-to-use, easy-to-access environment.

The end result is that it can not only help a business simplify its own internal processes (thus freeing up valuable time to be used for more important matters), but also automate administrative tasks, and more. The end result is that sales teams will have an easier time collaborating with their peers, their partners, and most importantly their customers.

Slack Sales Elevate is fully powered by Salesforce data, ushering in a new era of productivity and collaboration among sales teams everywhere.

Salesforce put out a press release alongside the announcement, acknowledging the “growing pressure” that sales teams are constantly facing to improve productivity and “do more with less.” Doing so is not only a way to increase revenue, but to preserve what are already often razor-thin profit margins as well. These goals are important, yes – but they should never come at the expense of the high-quality customer service that consumers have come to expect. Now, thanks to Slack Sales Elevate, the team behind Salesforce hopes that businesses won’t need to make that choice.

According to Salesforce’s recent “State of Sales Report” study, it was revealed that sales representatives spend around 70% of their time at work on “non-selling tasks.” If even a fraction of that number can be automated, it can free up time when those employees can spend directly relating to and serving customers.

So not only does a tool like Slack Sales Elevate make it easier for teams to maintain the same level of customer service quality that people have become accustomed to, it actually allows them to improve it dramatically. Indeed, working “smarter, not harder” is one of the simple ideas that led to the development of the Slack Sales Elevate tool in the first place.

Customers of the Slack Business+ plan will be pleased to know that Slack Sales Elevate has already begun its formal rollout and should be available to use now. The same is true of any customers using the Professional, Enterprise, and Unlimited Sales Cloud payment tiers of the tool. It is priced at just $60 per user per month.

The AI-Driven Future Has Arrived

The overall goal of Slack Sales Elevate isn’t to replace human employees at all. Instead, it is a tool designed to support and empower them – from organizational leaders all the way down to sales reps and everyone in between. It does this by giving them access to industry-leading tool sets and automation that can be used to maximize productivity in any way deemed necessary given an organization’s unique goals.

One prime example of this comes by way of Slack Sales Elevate’s artificial intelligence-powered workflows. For the first time, teams are in a position to build no-code workflows with Salesforce-triggered notifications in a matter of moments. These can include practically anything – from support requests to deal approvals and more. All this can be set up instantly without requiring any member of the team to have any extensive technical experience at all.

The example that Salesforce used has to do with new opportunities from Sales Cloud. When that new opportunity updates in Slack, an AI-powered workflow could take the data and use it to create and message a note in a particular account channel to make sure that sales representatives know to follow up. So not only does the customer get a follow-up far faster than ever, but that sales representative is also instantly armed with any information they need to close the deal.

Naturally, this has ramifications in virtually every industry you can think of. CLOUDSTREET is just one example of a provider that has implemented B2B solutions for businesses in the industrial, IT services, and consumer goods sectors.

Slack Sales Elevate’s personalized user interface also allows representatives to work with rich customer data and business insights at their fingertips. They don’t have to try to manage many different solutions or navigate across multiple windows to do so. A Slack Sales Elevate user can customize their dashboards in any way they want, complete with helpful reminders, while also tracking their individualized progress towards the KPIs (key performance indicators) that matter most to them.

It’s also important to note that the “Opportunities” view can also be quickly updated and automatically synced to Salesforce, allowing information to flow freely across the enterprise.

Another example of this idea in action would be a sales representative who wants to keep the others on their team in-the-loop on deal movements. They can toggle team-wide instant notifications that make doing so easier than ever before. This can help everyone stay up-to-date on when successful deals happen, along with new opportunities, pipeline updates, and more.

Using this type of AI-powered tool, a team manager could select to be notified whenever an opportunity changes so that they can finally have a “bird’s eye view” of what is going on. This can be a great way to identify opportunities for further coaching, empowering the entirety of their representative team through knowledge and ongoing education.

The Slack Sales Elevate tool is powered in part by Slack GPT, which is a conversational AI tool that Salesforce originally announced in May 2023. It was designed to help businesses boost productivity in multiple ways and this new integration is just one example.

In the end, artificial intelligence is here to stay – much to the benefit of businesses everywhere. When you consider how far this technology has come in a relatively short amount of time, it’s truly exciting to think about what businesses will be able to do with it over the next few months and beyond.
